American political projections released Tuesday indicate a strong performance for Democratic candidates across multiple states. Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia defeated Republican Representative Mike Collins in a tightly contested race. This win brings the Democratic Party closer to controlling the U.S. Senate.

Ossoff, who is Jewish, carried the state despite President Donald Trump winning Georgia by two percentage points in 2024. The result demonstrates the party's ability to hold key battleground states. Collins, who had Trump's endorsement, conceded defeat in the AP projections.

In Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro was declared the winner of the gubernatorial race. Shapiro, also a Jewish Democrat, is viewed as a potential presidential candidate for the 2028 election. His victory secures the state's top executive office for his party.

Democratic candidates are also projected to hold or win additional Senate seats in the Northeast. In North Carolina, Roy Cooper is expected to defeat Republican Michael Whatley. This would mark the first Senate seat won by a Democrat in the state since 2008.

Other projected Democratic victories include Juliana Stratton in Illinois, who is set to succeed retiring Senator Dick Durbin. Cory Booker in New Jersey is expected to win a third term against Justin Murphy. In Massachusetts, Senator Ed Markey is projected to defeat John Deaton following his primary win earlier this year.

Senator Jack Reed in Rhode Island is expected to secure a sixth term. Senator Chris Coons in Delaware is projected to defeat Republican Michael Katz. These combined results solidify the Democratic presence in the upper chamber of Congress.
