The Chicago Cubs fielded the best defensive unit in Major League Baseball last season, a distinction that earned two of their players the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. The honors were presented on Sunday night to third baseman Alex Bregman and center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Bregman, who spent his first season with the Cubs in 2026, recorded a defensive rating of plus 9 outs above average. That figure placed him second among all third basemen, trailing only San Diego Padres teammate Manny Machado. Bregman now shares the distinction of winning the award at third base with former Hall of Famer Ron Santo. He had previously received the honor while playing for the Houston Astros.
Crow-Armstrong secured his second consecutive Gold Glove after a season that included 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases. He is widely regarded as the league's premier defensive player. His statistical dominance was evident in multiple metrics, where he led the majors in outs above average at plus 26. He also topped the rankings in FanGraphs' defensive runs metric at plus 23 and Statcast's fielding run value at plus 26.
Three other Cubs players were named finalists in October. Shortstop Dansby Swanson, left fielder Ian Happ, and right fielder Seiya Suzuki all appeared on the National League list. The White Sox also placed a player on the American League list with second baseman Chase Meidroth.
The Cubs tied the Toronto Blue Jays for the most finalists in the league this year. The team previously led the sport with six finalists in 2025, a season in which they won three Gold Gloves.
