Denver-area flyers face higher JetBlue baggage costs
The airline raised its checked bag fees for the second time in 2026, citing increased jet fuel prices.

Denver travelers using JetBlue for domestic, Caribbean, and Latin American flights will pay more for checked luggage starting Tuesday. The airline announced the price hike on Tuesday, marking the second increase in less than a year.
Most economy passengers will now pay $50 to check one bag during off-peak periods. That is up from the previous $39 fee. During peak travel times, the cost for the first checked bag rises to $55, an increase from $49. JetBlue stated that the changes help offset rising jet fuel and operating costs.
The airline aims to keep base fares competitive while letting customers choose whether to pay for extra luggage. A JetBlue spokesperson told CBS News that the fee structure allows travelers to pay for a checked bag only if they need one. The carrier also noted that adding bags at least 24 hours before departure can save customers up to $15 on the first item.
Certain frequent flyer programs and credit card holders remain exempt from these new fees. JetBlue Plus, Business, and Premier cardmembers can check one bag free for themselves and up to three travel companions. TrueBlue Mosaic members also get at least one free checked bag, while Mosaic 2, 3, and 4 members receive two free bags.
Global oil prices have surged this year, driving up the cost of jet fuel. This fuel cost is the second largest operational expense for airlines after labor. According to Airlines for America, the price of jet fuel reached $4.41 per gallon on Monday. In January, the price was just over $2 per gallon. Other major carriers, including Southwest, have also raised their baggage fees this year.
