A federal grand jury in Las Vegas indicted Mitchell Wilson, a former detective with the Henderson Police Department, on four counts related to the illegal entry of a foreign national. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges in a release issued on Thursday.
The indictment alleges that Wilson coordinated with the individual beginning in October 2023. Prosecutors say Wilson transported the person into the United States on Dec. 30, 2024. Once inside the country, Wilson is accused of taking steps to hide the individual from law enforcement detection.
Wilson faces one count of encouraging and inducing illegal entry. He also faces charges for bringing an alien into the U.S. other than at a designated port of entry. Additionally, the indictment includes counts for transporting an illegal alien and harboring an illegal alien.
Sigal Chattah, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada, said the case shows that no one is above the law, especially those who have taken an oath to uphold it. She described the indictment as a betrayal of public trust. Jonathan Sherwin, deputy special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations Las Vegas, stated that facilitating unlawful entry undermines the integrity of the immigration system.
The case is scheduled for a jury trial on Jan. 25, 2027. United States District Judge Cristina Silva will preside over the proceedings.
