Radar Toys will open its newest location on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Lake Oswego. The grand opening runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes free comic books, prizes, costumes, and balloon twisting. Artists and comic authors will also be present to sign books for attendees.

The store occupies a large space at 16390 Boones Ferry Road. The interior features comic book themed artwork on one side and a whimsical enchanted tree on the other. Store manager Aaron Cox said the layout is designed to appeal to a wide range of customers, including families with young children. He noted that toys are the primary focus of the inventory, with games and comics located toward the back of the shop. Cox said that seeing stuffed animals first encourages grandparents to bring their grandchildren into the store, whereas a display of only comic books and board games might not attract them.

Richard Goosmann, the owner of the chain, said the company selected Lake Oswego because of its strong community ties. Goosmann stated by email that the mission is to be involved in the local area rather than just operating a retail space. He added that he felt the decision to join the community was the right choice after visiting the future store site.

Radar Toys operates two other locations in Oregon, one in Salem and one in Eugene. The new store will carry products including Pokemon and Magic: the Gathering trading cards, board games for all ages, and both new and vintage comic books. Goosmann said the store will host gaming events and other activities. Gaming play tables will be set up for daily use. The company plans to build groups for people interested in playing Pokemon, Magic: the Gathering, and board games.

The retailer also holds four major events per year at its stores. These events feature celebrity author and artist signings, as well as free activities for kids and adults. The Lake Oswego location joins the existing network of stores that prioritize community involvement alongside retail sales.
