Romanian President Nicușor Dan officially blamed the Russian Federation for an attempted arson attack at a key weapons manufacturing site in Brașov. The incident occurred on September 14, 2026, at the Carfil weapons plant.

Dan stated that the sabotage was part of a coordinated network operating from Russia. He described the attack as a serious violation of Romanian sovereignty and security. The Romanian Intelligence Service uncovered the plot and identified three suspects. These individuals include one Ukrainian citizen and two Belarusians.

The president characterized the incident as one element of a larger hybrid war strategy. He listed disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and influence operations as other tools used to weaken European democracies. Dan noted that foreign states have no right to act on Romanian territory or in other European countries in this manner.

Dan commended the intelligence services for their role in exposing the network. He announced that Romania will act decisively to prevent similar incidents and identify all involved parties. The government will also continue close cooperation with NATO allies and European Union partners to protect critical infrastructure and citizens.

The statement marks a direct attribution of blame to Moscow regarding the September 14 incident. Dan previously highlighted a rise in Russian provocations within the European Union. The Carfil plant remains a focal point for national security discussions following the discovery of the sabotage network.
