Sebastian Aho broke a tie late in the third period Tuesday night, giving the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins. His goal came at 10:19 of the third, 9:41 left on the clock, shortly after Boston's Matthew Poitras rang a backhanded attempt off the post on an open net. It was Aho's eighth goal of the season and his team-leading 19th point.

Pavel Zacha put Boston up 1:31 into the game on a power play, and the Bruins did not convert on the man advantage the rest of the night. Carolina killed off two Boston power plays in the final five minutes. Jackson Blake tied it with 52 seconds left in the first period. The Hurricanes went 0-for-4 on their own power plays.

Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 14 shots to move to 8-0-0, matching the longest season-opening win streak by a goaltender in franchise history. Frederik Andersen, a former Carolina teammate, set that mark five years ago. Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for Boston.

Carolina was playing its first home game in two weeks after going 3-1-1 on a five-game road trip. The Hurricanes entered the night as the first NHL club to reach 20 points, a first for the franchise. The loss snapped Boston's eight-game points streak and a two-game winning run.

Boston visits St. Louis on Thursday. Carolina hosts Columbus on Thursday.
