The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions.
Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The win gave the small-market team its first title in 58 years. Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Rookie Cooper Pratt recorded two hits and two runs batted in.
The franchise began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 before moving to Milwaukee in 1970. The team last reached the World Series in 1982. They blew a three-run lead in the sixth inning of Game 7 that year and lost to the St. Louis Cardinals. This 2026 squad finished the regular season with 103 wins, the most in Major League Baseball.
Manager Pat Murphy credited the group mentality of the roster. "This group of guys right here, the 2026 team, will be remembered forever," Murphy said. "They're not worried about their own stats. No one cares about that. They care about coming together and winning tonight." Captain Christian Yelich added that the city had waited a long time for this moment.
Misiorowski left the game due to a right calf cramp after allowing just two hits. He pitched on four days of rest. The 24-year-old right-hander topped out at 103 mph on two of his 86 pitches. He recorded 58 strikes. Trevor Megill closed the game after allowing one run in the ninth inning.
The Rays are now 0-3 in World Series history. Tampa Bay joined the Brooklyn Dodgers and Detroit Tigers as teams with losing records in their first three championship appearances. The Brewers led the majors in wins this season and went 11-2 in the postseason. They swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
A management lockout is likely to begin on December 2. This potential stoppage could threaten the 2027 season. The Brewers and Rays were the first teams from the bottom half of payrolls to meet in the World Series since 1991. Milwaukee ranked 19th in payroll as of August 31, while Tampa Bay ranked 25th.
