Julian Lewis, the quarterback for the University of Colorado, was hospitalized Wednesday following a medical emergency at a university athletic facility, according to his family. The player is a second-year athlete from Carrollton, Georgia, who had started the first four games of the current season.
A statement posted to X by Lewis' father, T. Carlton Lewis, on Thursday confirmed the player is recovering. The family said Lewis is thankful to his medical team, teammates, and fans. They requested privacy and indicated they would offer no further comments at this time.
The University of Colorado released a separate statement to the media Thursday. Colorado Athletics extended its support to Lewis, referring to him by his nickname, JuJu. The department stated that his health and well-being remain their top priority. The university did not specify if the emergency occurred during practice or provide additional details.
Before the incident, Lewis was listed as doubtful on Colorado's initial availability report for the upcoming game. He has completed 61 of 95 passes for 733 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions this season.
Receiver Joseph Williams posted a message of support on social media, addressing Lewis by his jersey number, 10. Williams wrote, "Praying for you 10 I love you man God has your back twin."
The Buffaloes, who hold a 2-5 record overall and 0-4 in the Big 12, host Kansas State at Folsom Field at noon Saturday.
