BOULDER, Colorado held off Kansas State 27-24 in overtime at Folsom Field on Saturday, Oct. 31, ending a five-game losing streak and a nine-game Big 12 slide for the Buffs. Charlie Williams caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the extra period to decide it.

The Buffs (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) led 21-14 with 50 seconds left in regulation before Kansas State drove from its own 38. Blake Barnett hit a 23-yard pass to the Colorado 39, then a 5-yard toss. On second-and-5 from the CU 34, Jaron Tibbs gained 31 yards to the CU 3. With two seconds left, Barnett found tight end Garrett Oakley from 8 yards out to make it 21-20.

Kansas State coach Collin Klein, a Loveland High graduate in his first season leading the Wildcats, had lined up for a two-point try to win in regulation but settled for the tying kick. Williams' overtime score gave Colorado the win.

Deion Sanders, in his fourth season at Colorado, said afterward, "Should have never went to overtime, I feel." Kansas State (4-4, 1-4 Big 12) arrived without its top two quarterbacks, Avery Johnson and Jacob Knuth. Colorado's Randon Fontenette said of the week's outside attention, "It felt like a dark cloud over this place.. it's a huge relief."

Colorado rushed for a season-best 222 yards. Richard Young carried 24 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and JaQuail Smith added 63 yards on the ground. The Buffs were penalized for 53 yards and turned the ball over once.

Kansas State moved its offense with Dillon Duff and Barnett after choosing Duff to start. Duff, a sophomore from St. Louis, made his collegiate debut. The Wildcats had two passing yards by the start of the second quarter. Colorado led 7-0 at that point, and DeKalon Taylor broke free for a touchdown before Kaleb Patterson's tackle forced the ball out at the 1-yard line and rolled it out of the back of the end zone for a touchback, holding Colorado at 7-0.

Young's 22-yard run three minutes into the fourth quarter capped a 10-play, 96-yard drive to make it 20-14 before the extra point. Colorado's next game is on the road at Arizona State. Kansas State returns to Manhattan.
