One person died and six others were injured in a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, late on Friday. The incident occurred at the Solano Town Center on the eve of Halloween. The Fairfield Police Department confirmed the toll in a statement posted to social media around midnight Saturday.

Officers described the event as a targeted incident involving one suspect inside the store. All seven victims sustained gunshot wounds. Police are still working to identify the deceased victim. The six survivors were transported to hospitals for treatment, with at least three listed in critical condition.

Detectives remained at the scene Saturday, speaking with witnesses to identify the shooter. The police statement called the crime scene active and noted that detectives were diligently working to find the person responsible for the shooting.

Fairfield is located about 37 miles northeast of Sacramento. The store, which sells costumes and decor, was open to the public when the gunfire started. Police have not yet released additional details about the suspect's identity or motive.

The shooting mirrors a separate incident reported in Michigan late Friday. Police in Madison Heights, a suburb of Detroit, said two 21-year-old men were involved in a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store. The victim in Michigan died from his injuries, while the alleged shooter was hospitalized.
