Los Angeles police arrested Raygine Glentasia Evans on Wednesday morning, ending a weeks-long search for the driver behind a deadly September collision in South Los Angeles. Detectives from the Metropolitan Division and South Traffic Division located Evans at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The arrest stems from a crash that occurred on Sept. 22, 2026, on 60th Street and 10th Avenue. Evans was driving a blue Nissan Sentra at speeds exceeding 80 mph when she ran a stop sign and struck two pedestrians. The impact killed 16-year-old Hernan Martinez and caused severe injuries to his 14-year-old sister, Vicky, who required hospitalization.
Following the collision, Evans and a passenger exited the vehicle, collected items from the car, and fled on foot. A driver in a red Honda Accord later picked up the two women, according to police reports.
Investigators revealed during a news conference last week that Evans had nine prior tickets for reckless driving and failing to stop at signs. She also faced wanted status for a series of robberies across Los Angeles County, with ten of those incidents occurring within LAPD jurisdiction.
Evans was booked on charges of murder, grand theft, and shoplifting with two or more priors. She is currently being held on $3.2 million bail. City Council members and police officials scheduled a news conference for 9 a.m. on Thursday to provide additional details on the investigation.
Family members of the victims were expected to speak during the Thursday briefing. The arrest marks a key development in the case that has drawn attention to speeding and intersection safety in the area.
