More than 6,000 people applied for the role of announcing flights at Boston Logan International Airport, but Massport, the agency that operates the facility, has chosen just one voice. The agency announced on Thursday morning that Chris Donisi, an HVAC pipefitter from Burlington, Massachusetts, will record the new airport announcements.

Donisi was selected from a pool of 35,000 voters who participated in the contest. The Massport officials narrowed the field to eight finalists before making their final decision. The agency posted Donisi's audition video on its website alongside the official announcement.

The new voice talent is a 22-year veteran of the pipefitting trade. He plans to keep his current day job while taking on the airport announcements. Donisi lives in Burlington with his wife, a four-year-old daughter, and a two-year-old son. He described his family reaction to the news as emotional. "My daughter got to see me on TV for the first time ever and her face lit up," he said at a news conference at the airport.

Donisi grew up in East Arlington, just outside Boston. He said he has heard from people about his distinctive voice since he was 11 or 12 years old. His mother told him about the competition, which he saw as a perfect opportunity to represent his hometown. "I don't think I honestly deserve anything but I just know this city and its roots and how the people move and flow around here," he said in a statement released Thursday.

During an interview on CBS Mornings, anchor Gayle King asked if he exaggerated his Boston accent for the audition. Donisi replied, "It's just how I flow." He added that he has never formally considered doing voice work, noting, "It wasn't any like transition into it, it was just - bang!" When asked for his favorite Boston phrase, he cited the line "How do you like them apples?" from the movie Good Will Hunting.

Donisi expressed excitement that his family and friends will now hear his voice during their travels. "I'm sure there's going to be some surprised faces, walking and hearing my voice. I'll probably be one of them," he said.

The Massport announcement confirms that Donisi's baritone voice will be the primary audio for flight information at Logan Airport.
