The College Football Playoff committee released its first official mock bracket for the 2026 season on Tuesday, placing Boise State at the No. 12 seed. This projection positions the Broncos as a potential playoff participant just one month before the final selection is made.
The ranking reflects the current standings and performance records of all collegiate teams. Boise State finished the regular season portion of the analysis with a national ranking of 25th. Despite this overall position, the committee assigned the school the 12th and final spot in the proposed 12-team bracket.
This projection marks a notable shift for the program, which is playing in its first season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. The Broncos enter this period following three consecutive Mountain West Conference championship titles. Their previous appearance in the College Football Playoff occurred a few years ago, a run driven largely by the performance of star running back Ashton Jeanty.
Analysts had predicted a strong campaign for Boise State before the 2026 season began. The committee's current assessment aligns with those early forecasts, suggesting that the team's recent dominance in the Mountain West has translated into national relevance under the new conference alignment.
The mock bracket serves as an early indicator of how the committee views the competitive depth of the sport. By including a Group of 6 institution in the top 12 seeds, the panel signals that non-Power 4 teams remain viable candidates for a postseason berth. The final decision will rely on the full season results, including bowl games and conference championships.
For the Broncos, the 12th seed represents a tangible target for the remaining weeks of the season. The program must maintain its winning trajectory to secure the automatic or at-large bid that the committee's preliminary model suggests is within reach. The official selection will take place in December, concluding the regular season evaluation process.
