The new facility in Swansea can accommodate up to 200 people per year. Team Housed, Working & Healthy, known as Team HWH, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to mark the opening of its expanded space.

Executive Director Brad Volin stated that the organization has maintained a waitlist for several years. The previous location was too small to meet the demand for the nonprofit's services.

The program combines a three-month culinary training course with employment coaching and mental health support. Volin noted the new site is located four blocks from the A Line light rail and sits on a bus route to Colorado.

Volin said there are 1,500 shelter beds within four miles of the new facility. This proximity allows staff to connect directly with individuals who need support services.

The City of Denver committed $1.5 million to the program. A partnership with Brookdale Senior Living guarantees annual jobs for 25 program graduates. Volin said the program succeeds when all partners work together as a team.

Geo Roberts completed the program in February. He found his first job at Ball Arena and is now the kitchen lead at Tokyo Joe's. Roberts is working on securing his own housing and now mentors current students.

Bonnie Harter is scheduled to graduate in a few weeks. She said she has already secured an interview and has participated in others. Harter described the support from staff, noting that a simple hug from the team is often much needed.
