Pittsburgh Public Safety officials reported a man in critical condition after being stabbed in the neck on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on South 13th Street near Fieger Street. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital, where his condition remains critical as of the latest update.
This marks the second stabbing in the neighborhood within 48 hours. On Friday night, just before midnight, police responded to a report of a chest stabbing near the intersection of South 14th Street and East Carson Street. The victim received aid at the scene before being taken to the hospital in critical condition. Investigators found evidence of the stabbing inside Capo's, a bar where a fight reportedly broke out prior to the attack.
No arrests have been made in either case. The frequency of violence near the establishment has intensified calls for action from community leaders. An open letter was signed by the South Side Community Council, the South Side Chamber of Commerce, and Pittsburgh City Councilman Bob Charland. The signatories urged the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office to seek a court-ordered closure of Capo's, citing repeated safety issues and violations.
The letter states that the latest stabbing demonstrates that past efforts to address problems at the bar have failed. This follows an incident earlier this year involving an alleged rape of a patron, which also led to scrutiny of the venue. Local officials say the recent violence underscores the need for a formal review of the bar's operational status.
Police continue to investigate both incidents. The South Side Community Council and other signatories are monitoring the District Attorney's response to their request for a closure hearing.
