Regis Jesuit seeks playoff win against Fossil Ridge

Regis Jesuit players will take the field against Fossil Ridge in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. The date for the matchup is to be determined. This game marks the team's entry into the postseason for the 2026 season, which features 24 teams.

The Jesuit program has a long record in Colorado high school football. Since the 1990 season, the team has made 27 playoff appearances. It has reached the quarterfinals in 10 different years: 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The program's deepest runs came in 2010 and 2016. In 2016, the team advanced to the semifinals after defeating Fairview 48-28 and Eaglecrest 34-24. It fell to Pomona 24-7 in that round. In 2010, Regis Jesuit reached the championship game. The team won four consecutive games, including a 49-21 victory over Arapahoe and a 24-21 win over Grand Junction. It lost to Mullen 37-6 in the final.

Recent seasons have shown varying results. In 2025, the team lost its first-round game to Erie 20-3. In 2024, Regis Jesuit beat Eaglecrest 45-14 but lost to Valor Christian 24-17 in the second round. The 2023 season ended with a 25-23 overtime loss to Grandview in the second round.

The team reached the quarterfinals in 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019. In 2022, it defeated Fossil Ridge 63-28 before losing to Valor Christian 45-28. In 2021, a 28-21 win over Pomona was followed by a 28-7 loss to Cherry Creek. In 2020, the team lost 29-6 to Cherry Creek in the quarterfinals. In 2019, it beat Highlands Ranch 49-7 but lost to Pomona 28-14 in the quarterfinals.

Before the 2019 campaign, the team missed the quarterfinals in several consecutive years. In 2018, a 48-14 win over Smoky Hill was followed by a 44-6 loss to Valor Christian. In 2017, it beat Mullen 17-10 but lost to Columbine 28-18. In 2016, it lost to Pomona 24-7 in the semifinals. In 2015, it beat Rangeview 33-7 and Legacy 34-7 before losing to Columbine 27-14 in the quarterfinals.

The team has won early rounds in many seasons. In 2014, it defeated Monarch 48-7 and Heritage 44-0 before losing to Cherry Creek 49-21. In 2013, it beat Fort Collins 49-7 but lost to Grandview 31-21. In 2012, a 15-14 win over Gateway was followed by a 44-3 loss to Valor Christian. The 2011 season ended with a 28-24 loss to Fairview in the first round.
