Jefferson County deputies arrested a man on Saturday who allegedly used a softball bat to damage two banks in the county while wearing a Pikachu costume. The suspect, Chad Alan Reich, 30, is now facing criminal mischief charges for the October incidents.
The first recorded incident occurred at 9:37 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2026. Reich struck doors, ATMs, and a sign at the U.S. Bank branch located at 7550 Shaffer Parkway. The second incident happened the following night at 10:16 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2026, at the Wells Fargo branch at 10103 West Belleview Avenue. Investigators noted he used a softball bat to cause the physical damage at both locations.
The arrest followed a tip from the public that led officials to the suspect’s social media activity. A caller informed the sheriff's office that the suspect was broadcasting on X, describing the vandalism and sharing his location. During the stream, Reich also reposted a sheriff's office update about the incidents and wished followers a happy Halloween on the platform.
Deputies used the livestream to locate the suspect. They found his Subaru in a Walmart parking lot off West Coal Mine Avenue and took him into custody without incident. Officers recovered a Pikachu onesie and the softball bat from inside his vehicle.
Reich is booked on one felony count and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief. The sheriff's office indicated that additional charges may be filed as investigators review his potential involvement in other local crimes.
The public tip was instrumental in identifying the suspect. The sheriff's office thanked the caller and those who shared the initial post about the vandalism, which helped track the suspect to his vehicle in the parking lot.
