The Denver Art Museum will display 150 works in its upcoming exhibition, "Picasso: Magician," making it the only venue in the United States to host the show.
The museum announced the exhibition as a comprehensive look at seven decades of Pablo Picasso’s focus on the human figure. The collection includes 130 pieces by Picasso and 20 by other artists. The works span painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.
Museum officials said the project is a collaboration with the Musée National Picasso, Paris and Manifesto Expo. This will be Denver’s first comprehensive exhibition of the artist, who died in 1973 at age 91. The display traces his artistic evolution from Cubism to surrealism, with a specific emphasis on his study of the body.
Christoph Heinrich, the Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the Denver Art Museum, described the partnership as a priority for the local audience. "We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Musée National Picasso, Paris to create this extraordinary exhibition and bring it exclusively to our Denver audience," Heinrich said. He noted that Picasso possessed "unlimited thinking and the ability to transform reality into new creative forms full of humanity, mystery and emotion."
Visitors will wait approximately one year for the opening. The exhibition is scheduled to run from October 31, 2027, to February 27, 2028.
Tickets for the show will be available for purchase later. The museum will post updates on denverartmuseum.org.
